![]() I have stayed in many inns from Maine to Georgia and this is my first negative review. Being in my 60's I was not happy about lugging my bags down the wet steps in the front and having to worry about falling. I put the keys on the desk and left without any attention from any staff. Upon leaving we went to the desk area, but a bellmen never arrived and the girl on the phone barely looked at us. We did not have the experience others had with helpful staff. When I asked if they had a list of recommendations he replied "Yea" and never produced it. Now 246 (Was 260) on Tripadvisor: Eliza Thompson House, Historic Inns of Savannah, Savannah. We tried to get dinner recommendations from someone at the front desk. ![]() The courtyard where they serve breakfast is lovely and relaxing and the breakfast food is average. We attempted to join other guests at the wine and cheese time, but the parlor was small and there was no seating or places to set our glasses so we took our food and drink back to our room. They really should turn that room into another parlor, not a bedroom. Every morning I was awakened before 7 by what I assume was the staff talking and laughing at the front desk and we could hear all the talking in the parlor across the hall as we tried to go to sleep at night. I was treating my daughter to the trip and she asked me not to make a scene so I let these irritations slide. The toilet ran the whole weekend so we kept the bathroom door closed. We were shown to a room right off the lobby that had two queen beds crammed into a room and that left little floor space or relaxing space. Basically I was asked how I wanted to pay the balance and given the rules of the room regarding smoking and pets. That was fine but when we were "greeted" it wasn't pleasant as you would expect at an inn. We waited to be greeted while two staff members talked. WE carried the rest of our luggage as he led us back up the steps to the desk. There we were greeted by a pleasant attendant who walked with us to our car to place the parking permit. We carried our bags up the wet steps into the front hall. We were not met by a bellman, so we circled the block and found parking. We arrived in front of a lovely house on a beautiful street. I was told by other members of our party that two different managers were on site at different times but did not speak to any one other than staff. My experience was different than many of the others that left great reviews. Another member of our party heard the manager speaking very loudly and angrily about the number of bottles of wine that was ordered that month. A staff member was at the counter sky ping on her cell phone and did not even acknowledge him. one of our party went to the kit henette looking for glasses. a couple of examples of poor service and management. No one spoke to us unless we spoke first and no one ( again Kevin being the exception) asked how we were doing or if we needed anything. The staff, with the exception of Kevin, was not overly accommodating or friendly. Instead of the great desserts that were served two years ago, the desserts served were of the kind that comes for Costco or Sams club. We were so tired of variations of egg casserole and in need of fresh fruit that we chose to go out for breakfast our last two days. while Ms Virginia is still a wonderful cook, the menu was limited from before and we found the food just ordinary which is not at all what we experienced our first visit. ![]() While we were still delighted with the overall visit, we did notice some decline.
